Since 1972, The United Methodist Church has struggled with the full inclusion and
affirmation of LGBTQ+ persons in its life and ministry. With the removal of harmful
language from the Book of Discipline at the UMC General Conference in 2024, finally
United Methodists are urged to speak up for persons who face marginalization of any
kind, including because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. "The United
