Music At Community
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” – Colossians 3:16
Here at Community, music of all kinds is a vital part of worship. From piano preludes to organ postludes, guitar solos to handbell anthems, from chant to spirituals to contemporary music, we embrace the fact that God can and does speak to us through any form of music, as long as our ears and hearts are open.
But music isn’t only a vital part of worship: weekly rehearsals are when the musical ensembles here form Communities of their own, offering support in the hard times and cheering each other on when times are good. If you want more music, more laughter, and more opportunities to make a joyful noise in your life, there’s room for you in the music ministries at Community!
Ice Cream Social
Calling all CUMCEG musicians! Our first social of the 2023-24 season will be September 23rd at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall! Bring ice cream toppings and your favorite board or card game!
Clarion Bells is an adult handbell choir that leads worship at least once a month from September to May and participates in special music services at Christmas and Easter. No prior handbell experience is necessary to join!
Rehearsals: Wednesdays 6:15 - 7:15pm September - May
The Praise Team is Community's contemporary music ministry. Once or twice a month, this ensemble trades the organ and handbells for guitars and percussion to lead our congregation in worship to God. As a volunteer ensemble, the Praise Team welcomes new members from all walks of life, regardless of musical background.
Rehearsals: Tuesdays 7:30-8:30 pm, year round with breaks at the discretion of the director
Chancel Choir leads the congregation in worship several times a month from September to May, drawing from sacred music traditions from Taizé to shape-note singing to modern anthems as we praise God during worship. No audition is necessary to join!
Rehearsals: Wednesdays 7:30 to 8:45 pm, September - May
Twice a year, the Chancel Choir joins forces with other singers in the congregation to present a special music service. If you love to sing but can’t commit to a full year of singing with the Chancel Choir, this is the perfect opportunity for you! By joining the Festival Choir, you commit to only six weeks of Wednesday evening rehearsals and one dress rehearsal on Saturday. No audition is required to join, though attending the Crash Course workshop is recommended for those with limited music reading experience.
Rehearsals: Wednesdays 7:30 to 8:45 pm. See Music Calendar (below) for more information
