September Meeting - Night of Flames

Elm Grove author Doug Jacobson, will be our speaker at the September 16, 2010 meeting at 11:45 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. “Night of Flames,” a novel of World War II, was the inspiration of Mr. Jacobson’s Polish ancestry and the war-time experiences of his Belgian relatives.  This well-researched, historical fiction is highly readable. Copies of the book will be available.

October Meeting - Cranberry Harvest in Wisconsin

Did you know that the cranberry gets its name from Dutch and German settlers? They nicknamed it the “crane berry” due to the shape of the blossoms. When the vines bloom in late Spring, the flowers’ light pink petals twist back resembling the head and bill of a crane. Over time, the name was shortened to cranberry. On Thursday, October 21, we’ll board a motor coach for “Cranberry Harvest in Wisconsin.” Helen Chang, OWLS member, will be our step-on-guide, showing us her families’ marsh, Watermill, as well. Lunch is at Burnstad’s European Restaurant. Seats are on a first-come, first-served basis. Register soon!
